Masjid Policies for the Marriage Contract

• All marriage contracts must be performed on the Masjid grounds with an official authorization.The Masjid is not responsible for any contracts completed off Masjid grounds.
• Those wanting to perform a marriage contract must notify the Masjid one week prior to the date performing the contract; All the information regarding the wali and witnesses must be gathered within due time
• The marriage contract will not be performed without the presence of the wali, no matter what the condition of the woman may be (ie. Never married, divorced, widowed, etc.)
• In regards to non-Muslim women, her father or wali must be brought to the Masjid for the marriage contract; otherwise it will not be performed.-If a woman were to face any problems regarding locating her wali, under the special circumstances regarding her situation, the Masjid will assist her with her issue(s) according to sharia’ah.
• For those involved in a non-marital relationship (i.e. Boyfriend/girlfriend), according to sharia’ah, they are required to separate at least two months prior to the performance of the marriage contract.
• For the definition of wali, please contact the Islamic Foundation of Lincoln and someone will answer your questions, accordingly.
